Members of the Duvernay family are determined to maintain inner peace while holding onto the extraordinary gifts they each possess after surviving the January 12, 2010, earthquake that struck the island nation of Haiti. “Your heart cannot heal in this place that hurt you,” Jesse tells his wife, Dahlia, who suffers from depression because of nature’s unrelenting act. His most challenging decision is to send his wife, daughter, and son to live in Georgia with relatives. Cristal, a young girl adventitiously blinded years before, is consumed with a passion for gathering flowers and making fragrances. She believes there is no place for her to blossom inside the walls of public education. Wilky’s dream of being a formidable soccer hero for the strategic Stingrays is sorely dismissed because of the long journey that lies ahead. But once the Duvernay’s emigrate to the United States and settle far from their beloved Caribbean home, their faith is transformed by the nourishing embrace of a community where blessings gallantly exceed obstacles.
